I thought this was about talking to the United States - isn't this a little bit off topic?

Israel survives at a standard of living above its neighbors, despite its backbreaking defense outlays and social programs, because it is the #1 recipient of US Foreign Aid in the world. Consequently every Israeli and Palestinian has an inordinate stake in whatever approach the US takes to the conflict. The Palestinians hope they can move US opinion more in the direction of European opinion which would pressure Israel for more concessions sooner. The Israelis (see the power of lobbying by the pro-Zionist Christian Right and traditional Zionist Jews) have the high ground over influencing US policy however. It's a hot button issue for many in the US electorate to do anything different (although Bush has recently tilted a bit to the Israel side by agreeing with Sharon that Israel should have the right to build their security fence wherever they want to - in contradiction even to rulings by Israeli courts!).

Does he mean two countries: Israel and Palestine or that he wants coexistence in one country?

Unfortunately, so long as theology holds such a huge role in government, no coexistence will work. It's sad that something which only the dead can truly know much about, wreaks such havoc among the living.

The only solution that would signify that the US is serious would be for the US Gov to stop funding Israel. On a similar note, countries funding Palestine's terror organizations need to halt funding as well. You must first stop the bleeding before you can move on.

First of all i agree that no terror groups should get any funding at all. But then there is a problem with the definition of terrorism. Killing civilians is clearly an unjust thing to do, but when the bombs kill Israeli soldiers I think it is more than justifiable since gaza is under occupation. During WWII it was called resistance work, but now its terrorism. Go figure...

Superhaze--If I attacked your country and was bent on slaughtering you, and you rose up and defeated me winning some of my land in battle, would I have a right in blowing up your citizens/soldiers "occupying" my country?
